Being a self taught cook, there are a lot of things, I do not know and have to figure out myself. Well let me tell you one of the banes of my cooking existence…FRIED POTATOES!! No matter what pan I use, what oil, what butter, is there too much oil or not enough, they just cannot come out right!

So I took to Google for this one and let me tell you, it did not disappoint!

Are you ready?! Are you really, really ready?!

It’s as simple as peeling your potatoes, cutting them into whatever shape you wish and allowing them to soak in ice cold salt water for 30 minutes. Really, that is it. I feel like such a fool for not knowing that but once you know why it all makes sense. The act of soaking your potatoes draws the excess starch out, which prevents them from sticking to your pan, which enables the potato to form that crispy crust! THE MORE YOU KNOW haha!

Once you have soaked the starch away, be sure to pat dry! Seasoning is important so I use my favorite, Lawry’s Seasoned Salt and a couple pinches of pepper! I then fry my potatoes over a medium heat cast iron with a couple teaspoons of canola oil for about 15 minutes or until they have that nice golden crust!

Seriously, now that I have had the perfect fried potato, I just can’t help but wonder…can a potato really do any wrong?!! 🙂
